Improve your French speaking and listening skills and learn about French gastronomy and French wines with a native French writer and gastronomic reviewer.

Course Overview

Stephanie Lopez, who will host the class, is a passionate connoisseur and a true language enthusiast.

Each session will focus on a French region, its culinary specialities, and best wine pairings. It’s the opportunity to learn French language and French traditional cooking at the same time, as our teacher will share her best ‘secret recipes’ with you.

Session 1

Lyon as the world capital of gastronomy, introducing the famous chef Paul Bocuse, and a selection of recipes you can easily cook at home.

Session 2

La cuisine de Provence and the wines from the Rhône Valley. How to cook a traditional ratatouille.

Session 3

Brittany, the region of crêpes and French cider. How to cook the traditional ‘galettes de sarazin’ pancakes, with suggestions of creative garnishes.

Session 4

An introduction to the cheeses and the rustic dishes from the Alps. How to cook a traditional tartiflette and a creamy, tasty gratin dauphinois.

Session 5

South-west cuisine: the Basque Country cheeses, the famous cassoulet from Toulouse, the grands crus (top quality vintage wines) of Bordeaux.

Session 6

The specialities from Marseille and the French Riviera : salade niçoise, aïoli, bouillabaisse, and Bandol rosé wine.

Session 7

The Bourgogne region & the grands crus de Bourgogne. How to serve a proper kir for aperitif and how to cook the famous boeuf bourguignon for dinner.

Session 8

The Alsace-Lorraine region: how to cook a traditional quiche lorraine and the famous choucroute, accompanied with a selection of fine Alsace white wines.

Course Dinner

Practise what you’ve learned at an optional French meal during the course at the acclaimed ‘The French’ restaurant, The Midland, Manchester.
